Life Sciences
Leader | Jane |
Meeting Pattern | Monthly at 10.00am, 4th Monday of month |
Venue | Currently by Zoom |
We are a group of people interested in the Life Sciences, covering a wide range of topics from Cell Biology or Biochemistry. For example we have learnt more about Viruses and especially how we can defend ourselves against their effects, the Immune System and Vaccines. ( very relevant in this Covid19 pandemic!) But we are currently looking at How Genes Pass on Information, the role of DNA and RNA, going onto Cloning, Epigenetics and Gene Editing.
We aim to choose as wide a range of topics as members interests stretch. Currently volunteers choose a topic they wish to find out more about (or know about and wish to share with others). Usually by a presentation (talk with slides/ powerpoint/ link to website/ film clip etc) followed by a discussion of various points. Somebody usually has an answer to questions or this might form the basis for later exploration..
This takes place online by Zoom at present until the Covid ‘situation’ becomes more settled. Help can be offered for ‘technical aspects of presentation’ ( We have all passed through a steep learning curve in this area recently!) Please come and join us if you are interested.
