We hope to fulfil our motto of “Learn, Laugh and Live” with renewed energy.
The u3a movement was started in 1982 as a shared learning experience for people of all ages who were retired or semi-retired and who wished to keep their minds and bodies active by continuing to learn new things. Members share their own skills with others in a friendly relaxed way. There are no exams.
There are now u3a’s all over the world and during lockdown many interesting international exchanges have taken place via social media. The u3a Office can normally provide additional learning material for various subjects and has continued to provide many learning opportunities via “zoom”. This has proved so popular that it is likely to be continued. Courses have included “The history of Mo’town music”, “Genealogy for Beginners”, “An introduction to Linguistics”, “Egyptology”, as well as many courses on Art, Photography, Mathematics, Music and craft work etc. All of these courses were presented by ordinary members of the 1000+ u3a’s from all over Britain and the necessary technology and invitations were handled by the u3a Office. Zoom has not yet been able to replicate skills like walking together or playing sports, so many of our members are looking forward to this aspect of normal u3a activities.
If you have a skill that you could share with others, or an interest that you would like to pursue further, come along and see if there are others with similar aims. Teas and coffees are served at 10.15 and we ask you to bring your own cup or mug for hygiene reasons. Please respect the safety of others by keeping a safe distance, especially when signing in.
If you are undecided whether joining the u3a would be right for you, come along and give it a try. You may attend three meetings before you are asked to pay your yearly subscription, so you have nothing to lose and maybe a lot of new friends to gain.
For those confused about our name - it means “university of the third age” and our motto is “Learn, Laugh and Live”.

Steve Disney has kindly offered to produce two newsletters each year. There will not be a new newsletter until we form more groups.
If any member has information or articles that they wish to be included in the next newsletter they should contact Steve. His telephone number and his email address may be obtained from the membership secretary Stephen Saunders. An up-to-date programme will be printed when more groups are formed.
