Social History
Social History is about how historical events affected people. We have recently looked at such broad themes as the decades of the 1950’s and 1960’s through presentations on topics like the changing role of women; health and the growth of the NHS; entertainment; and how technology and travel changed food preparation and diet.
The format is that members of the group with a particular interest in some aspect of social history volunteer to give a short talk on it, followed by a group discussion. THERE IS NO PRESSURE FOR MEMBERS TO GIVE A PRESENTATION. PEOPLE ARE WELCOME TO COME ALONG AND JUST TAKE PART IN THE GROUP DISCUSSION. We are currently looking at how peoples’ lives have changed over the last 100 years.
We meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month. We are currently meeting at members’ houses but hope to move permanently to the Tesco Community Room during the summer.
