The Wellingborough and District u3a Zoom Cooking Group
When I started a Zoom Cooking Group, many months ago, I really wasn’t sure what sort of longevity it would have – well - we’re still here!
We meet on the second Tuesday of the month on Zoom. Cooking with some intrepid cooks working along to the video of me demonstrating a recipe has been a huge pleasure. I have my own YouTube channel to which all the videos are uploaded.
You can access the Padlet with the recipes and YouTube channel here: Padlet for recipes and YouTube channel
As time has gone on I have become more confident at filming my cooking and now have two webcams, which I can position strategically around the kitchen. It’s not yet TV standard but, as I have been told that Nigella needs several ‘takes’ for each part of her programme and, of course, she has an out-of-sight team preparing things and clearing up after her – I don’t think we do too badly.
When we were finally given the go-ahead to meet with friends, I decided that a Summer get-together would be a good way to run the first meeting in August. Luckily the weather was on our side and, after our first drink indoors, we were able to eat outside.
All the other ladies brought a dish which I had demonstrated in previous sessions, and we had a real feast: Pea Soup, Coronation Chicken, Potato, Lemon and Broccoli Salad, Creole Rice Salad, Home Made Bread and a St Clements Trifle.
Whilst I can’t say that all this cooking has done my lockdown weight gain any good at all; we have had a great time during the 13 sessions. Despite not meeting in person until now,I have made some great new friends and I am sure the fun will continue for a long time to come. I am already planning Christmas cookery!
