Welcome

About Welland U3A

Welland U3A was established in 2000 to relieve the pressure on the fast-growing Stamford U3A group.

Since then it has established a loyal and growing membership of over 200. Many of Welland's members appreciate the friendliness and sociability afforded by a smaller group.

U3A aims to give retired and semi-retired people to carry on growing intellectually amongst like-minded people. There are many interest groups that you can join and you can see details under the "Groups" tab on this website.

There is also a "Main Meeting" held on the last Tuesday of each month except for December. This is held Barn Hill Methodist Church, Stamford. Meetings start at 10am with coffee/tea (no charge but voluntary donations welcome) in the Church Hall, located at the rear of the Church, where members like to chat with old and new friends. There is a very friendly and welcoming "buzz" in Welland U3A and you can be sure that there will be people you feel able to talk to!

There is also time to browse the notice boards giving details of the various group's activities. At 10.30am we move into the Church itself for the Speaker's talk, which can be on anything from the World of Antiques to sampling Hand-made Chocolates, from Home Security to a Song Writing Musician. The Methodist Church is a very comfortable and modern venue with modern projection and audio facilities.

Please note parking in the church grounds is very limited and cramped. North Street Car Park almost opposite the rear of the church is, however, very convenient.

We generally finish by 11.45am. Many members have an inexpensive lunch together at a local pub/restaurant afterwards. Details provided at each meeting. Just sign up on the day and don't be shy!

Visitors are very welcome to come along to two monthly meetings to see if they would like to join us. It costs just £1 to be a visitor. For that you get good company, tea and biscuits and a stimulating talk. What have you got to lose? You're never going to get a better offer! Just turn up and make yourself known to a committee member (they're the harrassed looking people with badges around their necks!) or at one of the registration desks. Please see Membership page for joining details.

There is at least one annual outing each year. In 2018 we went to the World War II "Codebreakers" centre at Bletchley Park. Other years have included the Canal Village at Stoke Bruerne and the National Arboretum at Lichfield.

DON'T SAY YOU'LL "THINK ABOUT IT", LIFE'S TOO SHORT. COME AND SEE FOR YOURSELF JUST DO IT!!
