The Study Group is not operating for 3 months. Meetings will restart in mid September.
Meetings: Spanish Cooking meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 1.00pm. Classes are normally structured into 4 week courses. Lessons last about 1h30m.
Venue: At the SGL's house which is near Asda supermarket.
Study Group Leader: Carmen Copley (Click on the name to email).
Vacancies: Up to eight people can attend each course. To put your name on the waiting list, please contact the SGL.
What we do: This group is for learning about Spanish cooking. The group started by working on Spanish Tapas and has now broadened scope to a wider range of Spanish style cooking. The SGL will teach you various techniques on how to cook and present Spanish meals. The emphasis is on all types of Spanish cooking. The groups have space for 1 or 2 new members.
Recipe for Chorizo flavour marínate (Adobo de chorizo)
3 tbsp paprika (smoked, plain or both)
1 tsp ground cumin
Garlic - at least 3 cloves or garlic powder
Oregano or mixed herbs
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
Mix all the ingredients together with water until you make a paste.
Rub the paste over your chosen meat (I suggest pork shoulder steaks as they are the best if barbecuing).
Leave to marinate from 20 minutes to 1 day (the more you marinate the meat the better the taste).
You can try chicken or lamb. This marinate was originally made for lamb.
Recipe for Spinach omelette with chorizo (Tortilla de espinacas y chorizo)
Eggs (2 per person)
½ clove garlic per omelette
Boil spinach until cooked and drain very well.
Fry garlic in a frying pan until a little brown (be very careful because it burns extremely quickly).
Add as much chorizo as you like and lightly fry.
Remove everything from pan and mix together with spinach.
Beat eggs and add them to the mixture.
Fry in the pan and turn.
If you have pitta bread you can open and fill it with the omelette and add salad inside the pocket or anything you want, like cheese, pickles or ketchup - it’s up to you.
Ready to eat.
This is a good recipe for picnics as also nice cold.
