Railway Group
Meetings: We meet on the afternoon of the 3rd Friday of most months. We meet regularly in the summer months, less regularly during winter.
Venue: Meetings are usually at Badger's Crossing, 147 Hempstead Road, Watford. The meeting date and venue is subject to change if an outing is organised.
Study Group Leader: Paul and Jennie Hunt
Vacancies: New members welcome. Contact the Study Group Leader if you are interested.
What we do: Since its inception in 2015 the group takes in all types of railway interest, models and full size.
The aim of the study group is to look at and discuss interests in Railway Models and visit various venues including display model railways, exhibitions and preserved railways.
Members might have model railways of their own to demonstrate and discuss with other group members. For example, the SGL has an extensive G Scale outdoor railway in his garden (approx 1/24th –1/29th scale). However, it is not necessary to have your own model railway. Anyone with an interest is very welcome.
Outings in the past have included, Bekonscot Model Village, Didcot, Brighton Model World, The Watercress line (Hampshire).
I visited the Great Central Railway in January to check it out, and I think this will be an ideal venue later in the year especially as I found a great Pub for Lunch (most important).
Future Visits: York, (National Railway Museum and the NYRM). Including a Greek restaurant in a station and a trip to Whitby.
One of our Group has over the last year prepared a OO Gauge railway which is still under construction. We visit this in April. Badgers Crossing now has a running Hornby 3 rail 2 line layout with a 2 Rail working line as well.
Charity Open Day This will be held on the 6th of August in aid of “Bloodwise”, better known as Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. We are planning a BBQ, teas, working layouts, plus entertainment from the Thomas Marquees Choir. There will be a raffle with great prizes, including a holiday. Entry will be free.
For 2018 we are looking at a visit to the 5 Railways near Porthmadog.
If this appeals do come along and join us.
