Books & Literature
The Books and Literature Group meets the first Tuesday of each month, at the Mansfield Woodhouse Library, where we are given a warm welcome and our own private Discussion room. Meetings during winter time are between 2 and 3.30. These timings may change as Spring and Summer approach, according to member's wishes.
We will be returning The Letter by Kathryn Hughes in the March meeting. During the meeting we will discuss any themes or issues which the novel raised.
Issues such as paternalistic authoritarian and cruel parenting of children, particularly daughters. Can father's ever truly empathise and relate to their daughters? Chains of events and the implications of one destructive deed on many people. The Catholic Church and its former approach to unwed mothers. Our new novel called The Scapegoat will be ready for us to collect.
Part way through we always have coffee and a light hearted chat about other things. Anyone is welcome to drop by and check out what we do.
Book exchange Table.
This is now up and running during the general monthly meeting at the Tudor Barn. Please bring along any books you would like to contribute at the meeting. Anyone can then borrow a book for 50p for as long as they like. Book lovers are looking forward to this new addition.
