About
This page is for members, prospective members and interested parties to gain an opportunity to see how we organise and run Warsash U3A. In addition we have provided links to the Policies and Procedures adopted by Warsash U3A
Warsash U3A is an independently managed, registered charity (No.1181982) with its own Constitution. It’s elected committee run WU3A for the benefit of its members and is financed by members subscriptions. The committee meets regularly to manage and maintain WU3A in accordance with its Constitution. We are supported by the Third Age Trust, the national umbrella organisation for over a thousand U3A around the country. The Third Age Trust provides U3As with educational and administrative support as well as the aims and guiding principles of the organisation. The committee has good links with other local U3As through its Networks with whom information and best practice is shared.
The aim of each U3A, as stated in its Constitution, is:
“The advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full time work by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development.”
However, you won’t find any formal education here in U3A, it’s rather unique place in the market means there are no teachers, classrooms or qualifications. Learning is for its own sake, with enjoyment being the prime motive.
Our Various Interest Groups together with Workshops, Events and Visits offer more than is currently on offer in our locality and compliment many other clubs and societies such as Gardening, Bridge, French.
All our activities bring benefits in health and social wellbeing as well as opportunities to pursue learning and develop our interests in retirement. We should therefore see increased membership over the forthcoming year as the word spreads across the area about our friendly and lively U3A!
Our activities are provided by our own members, on a voluntary basis and we are remarkably lucky to have much to offer our members.
In recent surveys we found that 90% of our members attend one or more of our groups and around 30% of members are volunteering their time, skill and knowledge to WU3A.
We would be delighted to hear from members who would be interested in joining our committee to offer skills to benefit the running of the organisation or to join our sub-committees or form new groups to help our activities grow.
