Science and Technology
In June, the Science and Technology Group visited the Warminster biogas plant. We were served tea and coffee and given an hour-long talk that explained what went on there. After that, we were shown around and were amazed to see mountains of Elmlea and muesli waiting outside for their turn to be loaded in. We were told that the plant continually supplies enough electrical energy for 3000 dwellings. At our July meeting we learnt of ancient technology, that of the making of Stonehenge. Our speaker was Romy Wyeth. With the aid of pictures projected on a screen she described the transporting methods, the reasons for the construction and the myths associated with it. Our August meeting will be at the Small Arms Museum, the September one will be back at the Community Centre when Digby Barker will enlighten us on the subject of astro-physics and where Dickon Povey will talk to us in October about aircraft development.
Our base is the Community Centre where we meet at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month, unless visiting places of interest. Mike Skillman
