Welcome to Warley U3A
It was at the end of May 2014 that Brian Leith - Chair of the Brentwood branch of the U3A - held a meeting to see if there was enough interest locally to set up another branch. A steering committee was established and we held an inaugural branch meeting on 29th October. We have continued to meet monthly since then.
We meet at Christ Church on Warley Hill, CM13 3AA on the fourth Thursday in the month at 2.15pm. We welcome a speaker at each of our meetings and refreshments are also available following the talk - this makes for an enjoyable social afternoon for all.
Alongside those meetings we have also been able to get a number of interest groups underway and we very much hope that members will come forward to facilitate or host further groups so that we can further develop the interest group programme.
Each year the members select a charity to support. Proceeds from our monthly book sale, refreshments and sundry ah-hoc events go to the selected charity. Our charity for 2019/2020 is "Changing Pathways", a domestic abuse charity working across the areas of Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford and Thurrock providing free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced domestic abuse.
New members are always welcome.
Membership is open to anyone no longer in full-time employment.
If you are thinking of joining us you are welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings as a guest - you will meet a committee member at the door and they will sign you in as a guest for the afternoon - so if you are coming alone you will not be alone for long.
