Welcome to Warley U3A

Warley U3A - Coronavirus Information
All monthly meetings and face-to-face Group meetings are cancelled until Government restrictions are lifted.

However, the Committee are meeting by Zoom, the newsletter is still being produced, some Groups are holding "virtual" meetings or meeting in members' gardens and others are keeping their members (and everyone else) supplied with things to do during the lockdown - see the Groups' page for details.

The Main U3A site also has a large number of links/videos/ideas/competitions/quizes/discussion groups and advice.

There are a number of our members willing and able to help others who need practical support, advice or just someone to talk to - details in the the newsletter or contact the Secretary on the "contact" page.

Message from the Chair
Greetings to you all. I do hope everybody is well and enjoying life, meeting up with friends and family. Some of you may even be lucky enough to be going away – Happy Holiday!

The current situation has eased somewhat but we are still in the process of semi-lockdown so we are unable to meet in our usual way.

As was mentioned in the last newsletter, we are therefore having to hold our A.G.M. via Zoom. I do hope as many of you that are able will be joining the meeting on 13th August. This is an unknown territory for all of us, so patience and understanding will be required.

Looking forward to see you on 13th August.

Best wishes

The A.G.M will be held online by Zoom on Thursday 13th August 2020 at 2.15 pm.

An Agenda and supporting documents will be sent to you around the 20th July with the joining instructions.

There will be an opportunity to join a practice Zoom meeting for members on Tuesday 11th August at 10 am.

Many of you will be familiar with using Zoom but if you would like help with setting this up, please contact either Kate Alexander or Martin Hamilton ahead of the meeting (not later than 10th August). It is also possible for you to hear the proceedings using your phone. A telephone number will be provided in the information pack that you receive.

We meet at Christ Church on Warley Hill, CM13 3AA on the fourth Thursday in the month at 2.15pm. We welcome a speaker at each of our meetings and refreshments are also available following the talk - this makes for an enjoyable social afternoon for all.

Alongside those meetings we have also been able to get a number of interest groups underway and we very much hope that members will come forward to facilitate or host further groups so that we can further develop the interest group programme.

Each year the members select a charity to support. Proceeds from our monthly book sale, refreshments and sundry ad-hoc events go to the selected charity. Our charity for 2019/2020 is "Changing Pathways", a domestic abuse charity working across the areas of Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford and Thurrock providing free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced domestic abuse.

New members are always welcome.
Membership is open to anyone no longer in full-time employment.
If you are thinking of joining us you are welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings as a guest - you will meet a committee member at the door and they will sign you in as a guest for the afternoon - so if you are coming alone you will not be alone for long.
