We look closely at grammar and use books of exercises which help to make it clearer and aid memory. We also use course books and are taking on more demanding prose and listening material and also view PowerPoint presentations of various topics.
We enjoy our weekly meeting in a social and relaxed friendly setting. Laughter is a regular feature of our two-hour slots! Three members take it in turns to host sessions and long standing members take it in turns to plan activities. During the covid restrictions we are meeting only via video conferencing. We aim to learn German by reading, speaking, listening and writing the language (we’ve been concocting short, often silly stories recently). Use is made of a course book with exercises and video/audio material. A German magazine downloaded from the internet has been really good for finding out about the country, its people, culture, customs, history and everyday life. We would like to think that we have moved beyond the 'phrase book' language, so do grapple often with the grammar of the language.
