Meet: Second Wednesday at 9.30am or Third Thursday at 2pm although we are flexible to suit our members and mindful of the weather!
Group Leaders Hazel Carpenter / Vera Martin
We are a group of enthusiastic practical gardeners. We installed the wall planters at Ware Station and replant them twice a year. In the autumn we planted violas to replace the fuchsias which had flowered all summer long.
Our main project has been the Sanctuary Garden (formerly known as the Sensory Garden) in Ware Priory grounds. The shrubs in the garden were very overgrown and we worked for nearly three years to clear them, replanting as we went, mainly using hardy perennials and small shrubs. Our fund raising efforts resulted in the worn gravel path being properly remade to be suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. We even had the lamp post moved to a safer position off the path!
Unfortunately our numbers have dwindled in the past couple of years and we would very much welcome new members. If you can dig, that's great, but there's also plenty of light work to do. We normally meet just once a month (see above) but we arrange to meet more frequently as and when the need arises. We planted more tulips and alliums during the autumn and look forward to another lovely spring display. Please come and join us!
