Update (20/04/20)

News from our groups: The Twilights are thinking of starting a how well do you know Ware in which they take a photograph of part of something then put it on their WhatsApp group. The Poetry Group have run a session using Zoom and the Writing Group is setting assignments monthly and sharing their work through email and post.

Some of our members have been up to Post Wood on their daily exercise and have come back saying that the bluebells are really beautiful at the moment. Hope you like the photographs that they have shared with us.

WhatsApp

The Picknmix and Twilights are using WhatsApp on their mobile phones to communicate with each other. They are posting messages and photographs and Kay will be sending the members of the Twilights a weekly quiz.

WhatsApp is free to use through the internet but you can't really use it for video conferencing although it might be worth trying it out for small group chats with audio or video, or you could try Messenger.

Projects

The Photography Group members are starting to work on projects which will be set by Barry.

Google hangouts

Some of the exercise groups are having lessons streamed using Google hangouts.

Zoom

The Committee are looking to use Zoom conferencing to hold their committee meeting on 1 April 2020. Zoom is free to use and allows up to 40 minute meetings. Some other U3A's are using it for groups with 2 meetings - Meeting 1: 40 minutes, break for tea, followed by Meeting 2.

Facebook

If you use Facebook there are some specific U3A Groups online, a particularly useful one is U3A: Keeping in Touch (You need to apply to join and must state which U3A you are a member of). Many U3A's are posting ideas from crafts, poetry meetings, armchair walks using Google Street view, a Maths challenge every day and highlighting other national opportunities aimed at U3A members.

Remember, whatever you are doing, stay well, stay safe and stay at home. Our membership has a wealth of experience and is very creative so let us see examples; please email Jan Wing with your suggestions. We will try to use this page to do what it says, "Connect2us", and keep talking in whatever way is practical.
