Enjoying Classical Music A
We meet in 2 groups for the reason of space; both groups have the same programme each month. “Enjoying classical music” was chosen as our name to make it clear what kind of music we love and hear. Over the years we have covered Bach to Bernstein and have heard music written over four centuries – with cake, coffee or tea.
In the latter part of last year we explored the music of Estonia and the influence of Russian control on the works acceptable to the authorities. Many musicians and composers have left their homelands and gone into exile.
This year we will concentrate on American composers for a few sessions. We felt we should widen our knowledge and enjoyment of music written in our lifetime. The works chosen for each programme are heard in full.
