Remarkable Women 1
This successful WFU3A group started in 2016 and has an interesting concept behind it. The idea is that people talk about 'remarkable women' who mean something to them. These might be personal: mothers, grandmothers, teachers, bosses, friends, or neighbours. Or they might be writers, poets, musicians, scientists, or politicians who have been important to them in their life or whom they admire. Often we all find out about women in a whom we've never heard of before, but now find inspirational.
The group dedicates the monthly meeting to women in a particular field or walk of life. Each member prepares two presentations - one around 5-10 minutes and another very brief, as a reserve. So we always learn about at least half a dozen remarkable women in a session (there being 6 members at the moment) and often several more. Photographs, books, exhibition catalogues, concert programmes, interviews and personal recollections are all welcome. You don't need anything except a love of biography and of finding information in a variety of forms.
Members have a relaxed attitude as to whether everyone will have a different person to talk about. Duplication rarely happens but if it does, the 2nd person is welcome to add to the 1st person's presentation. We often benefit from the results of two people's efforts.
At the moment this group is full but our 'sister' group, Remarkable Women 2, may have vacancies. Consult Lesley to find out.
