Play Reading
We are now a smallish group of six which means that we are a bit restricted in plays to read. We meet once a month at Winchester Road on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This does involve a non-refundable payment for room hire and refreshments from everyone in the group. Our purpose - to enjoy reading and discussing plays, and to increase the fluency of our sight reading.
We kept in touch during 'lock downs' by using zoom for a social chat once a month.
We source scripts from Waltham Forest library in Leytonstone which has a decent stock of older varied playwrights. We have also membership of the Essex County Council library where we can hire more modern plays than are available at Leytonstone. There is a charge for hiring plays payable to group members.
Over the past few months we have read some 'lighter' plays by Agatha Christie, Noel Coward, Neil Simon and Michael Frayn. We are looking now to read some of the weightier plays to stretch ourselves. For example, Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter.
It would be interesting to research playwrights and learn more about the development of theatre but this is up to the individual members of the group.
