French Studies

Our aim is to enjoy our reading, pronunciation and understanding of the language. We attempt to achieve this mainly through reading French novels, initially in simplified form but now we're trying the original French texts, which we find to be more enjoyable, getting a better ‘feel ‘ for the language. That entails a lot of dictionary and Google Translate effort, also good fun. We also have access to a number of classic French films with sub-titles, shown for the occasional change.

None of our members is sufficiently fluent in the language to lead the group, we are all people with a good smattering of French, mostly from school; certificate or ‘O’ level days. So don't be intimidated into thinking the level will be embarrassingly high. Self help is the watchword, real U3A stuff.
