Waltham Forest

Groups

You like chatting to people? You’re enthusiastic about a pastime (Baking? Visiting museums? Playing games? Cycling? Writing poems?) You’re just the person we need! Join our U3A, then use our channels to find other people like yourself and lead a new group. You don’t have to be ‘an expert’, just an enthusiast who’s happy to learn even more, alongside others. Maybe the group you fancy is full and you'd like there to be a second one? Lots more detail in this leaflet from our Groups Coordinator, Lesley. Or let us know your thoughts now via our new Facebook page

Update on Groups January 2022

Mahjong had a waiting list but Tony is now thinking about starting a second group. Contact Lesley if you'd like to know more.

Film Club (Home screenings) will now meet at 2.00pm in the afternoon, from January onwards

Table Tennis meetings will resume on 9th February.

The Birdwatchers emerge from hibernation on 16th February and will be seen at the Walthamstow Wetlands.

The current situation means that groups can now make their own decisions about where to meet and how they would prefer to organise those meetings. We are very willing to offer support and advice to our Group Leaders should they feel they need it. If you are already a member of a group then your Group Leader will be keeping in touch with you.

If you are looking for a group to join there are vacancies in the Book Club, Enjoying Classical Music A, Needlework & other crafts, Play-reading, Rummikub 3 and Singing for Fun. There has been a possibility of Painting starting again but the member who was thinking about leading has had to take a step back. Several new members expressed interest in this group however and it only needs someone willing to lead it. Lesley can put people who would like to join it in touch with each other - just contact her. Cinema Visits and Epping Forest Walks have no limit on members.

Are you a Silver Surfer? Waltham Forest AgeUK have just published their 2022 programme of sessions on all manner of technology subjects: PCs, Laptops, Tablets and Phones. Something to suit all interests and experience. Click on the live link above or at the top right of this screen. Each week covers a topic and also has plenty of time for Q & A on any techny questions you may have. Relaxed and friendly.

Lesley has oversight of all group activity and she is happy to talk to any member who would like to know more about what's happening, or discuss an idea for a new group. Her direct contact details are in the monthly newsletter (or send a general message on the Contacts page and it will get through to her).

We warmly welcome new ideas, particularly now, and we try to support anyone who is nervous about leading a group but would like to try. Read this leaflet first. If you would like to start a group but you can't offer a home as a meeting place, you might want to consider booking a small room at Winchester Road? The cost is shared between members of the Group but it's very modest; a few groups meet there already. Another possibility is offering a short sequence of meetings to explore a particular topic or try out a new skill. Lesley will be happy to advise.
