Leader : Edward Jones, Chartered Architect.
Coordinator : Louise Platt. We meet monthly on the third Thursday.
We are an informal group and an intensive knowledge of Architecture is not at all necessary – only an interest therein!
In the last five years we have had illustrated talks on many types of building, from castles to churches, from historic mansions to skyscrapers. We have had illustrated talks on many famous architects, from Christopher Wren and Lutyens to Pugin and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Our talks are given by a variety of people, by our leader, by members of the Group, or by regular visiting lecturers. We also invite outside specialists to talk on their projects, for instance the new Birmingham City Library.
We visit places – like conducted tours of Cheltenham and Sutton town centres or the Avoncroft Historic Buildings Museum. And we visit interesting buildings like Aston Hall, The Oratory in Birmingham or the beautifully restored Victorian Birmingham Art College.
Our autumn programme includes Bournville Village Trust, (by Robert Booth, BVT’s Chairman), ‘A Trip to Italy’ by photographer David Jones and “We Lived in Pugin’s House” by members Lilian and Roger Turner.
