U3A Day Wednesday 2nd June 2021
The u3a movement is embracing the opportunity to celebrate all that u3a stands for and raise awareness of our activity and learning with our first u3a day on 2nd June.
National u3a Day was originally planned in September 2020 but the continued uncertainty in lockdown as to whether activities could be undertaken led to a re-think.
As part of Volunteer Week, on the first Wednesday in June, members can showcase what happens in their u3a, challenge negative perceptions of older adults and invite other Third Agers in the community to learn about the contribution u3a makes to the quality of life of retired people, showing the innovative ways members have responded to the restrictions under lockdown.
At Walsall u3a, we have 34 Interest Groups and some of them have met on Zoom while other Interest Group Leaders have sent out regular newsletters and most of them have kept in regular contacts with their members via email and/or telephone. You can view these virtual activities on the first link on the right.
We have realised four short videos to show you what Walsall u3a is about. They are not perfect but as life isn’t, we feel it is still ok to show them. Please click on the links on the right to watch them.
In our first one, Vivian our Membership Secretary - who leads the Literature and Whist Interest Groups - introduces Walsall u3a.
Following on, Judith our German Interest Group Leader interacts with four members of the group.
The next one shows Izzy our French Conversation Interest Group Leader and Interest Group Coordinator with three members of the group.
In the last one, Jo - who leads The Climate Change Group (named A Climate for Change) – and four other members talk about this burning issue.
We are looking forward to seeing you in person as soon as we can resume our meetings.
In the meantime, do not hesitate to get in touch
Stay well and keep safe
