Newsletter Workshop

Twelve U3A members from all over Wales attended workshops on the 19th and 20th September 2017 to learn about software and techniques for producing newsletters. The workshop started by considering design principles for choosing fonts, colours and layouts. The rest of the session was "hands on" learning how to prepare photographs using the GIMP image editor, then producing the newsletter using LibreOffice Writer. Both these applications are open source and available free of charge for anyone to use on any computer system.

It was a lot to cover in one day but those attending were appreciative of the session:

thank you for a most informative and interesting day and your delivery style made the topic easy to understand and gave us the chance to practice and ask questions

I found the workshop inspiring; it has kick-started my ambition to make further progress with DTP usage. If you ever plan to organise a follow-up workshop I would be very interested.

I enjoyed the course immensely and you covered many topics all very interesting and informative.

Many thanks for the workshop yesterday. I really enjoyed it – much to my surprise as I am not keen on spending hours on laptops – and you gave us lots of practical and easy to follow tips.

The workshop will be repeated as required. You can download the information sheet on Producing a Newsletter for full details.

If you are interested in attending a future workshop, please contact Hilary Jones the Wales Trustee.
