Wales Short Story Competition

The theme is the coast, and selected stories will be used in the Coast and Borders project. The story must start with ‘It was a beautiful stretch of Welsh coastline….’. The competition is open to all U3A members and the closing date is 31st August. There are two competitions: one for stories in English (1500 words) and one for stories in Welsh (1000 words). Last year there were many entries for the English side, but few for the Welsh. Please encourage your Welsh speakers to enter.

Thu Oct 11th Rosemary Maling Lecture Day Brecon U3A
In the morning “Fake News” with Professor Kevin Williams

In the afternoon, the keynote speaker is Lieutenant-Colonel Rodney Ashwood, a military historian and good friend of Brecon U3A where he has previously lectured on the Zulu War of 1879, the Gallipoli Campaign, and the history of the Victoria Cross in Wales. He actively promotes the welfare of ex-servicemen and supports Welsh Rugby! The focus of his lecture will be on the personal side of the legacy left by the Great Way, and how Wales and the Brecon area set about commemorating those who made the supreme sacrifice.

Mon Dec 31st Lampeter University Workshops 2018

Newcastle Emlyn U3A organised a Philosophy Workshop at the University which prompted the University of Lampeter to organise their own workshops by their different Departments for this coming year, Covering Ancient History, Anthropology Archaeology, Politics & Culture, & Philosophy.

The workshops are open to everyone, but all U3A members are invited. Lampeter University is doing all the organisation and responsibility. This will be a new venture for our local university and we hope it will encourage many more Universities and Colleges to have public workshops. Although not specific for the U3A we do hope many members will apply. Full details, costs and how to book can be found at http://www.uwtsd.ac.uk/humanities-workshops/ "
