Group visit to the Saville Garden in Surrey 8 June 2015

----- ----- Fifty two of us travelled to this famous garden set in Windsor Great Park and enjoyed the high standard of horticulture maintained by the estate gardeners.

The garden was the vision of Sir Eric Saville and work to establish it stated in 1932.
Features in the garden include lots of Rhododendrons and Azaleas which are full of colour in the spring as well as many contrasting features like the New Zealand Garden, a spectacular rose garden and colourful herbaceous borders. There is also a wild flower meadow, where we saw naturalised orchids, a bog garden and the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House.
The full range of horticulture with its many contrasts is there to be enjoyed and was much appreciated by our group.

After a morning in the garden and lunch we rounded off our day with a boat trip on the Thames that took us past Runnymede of Magna Carta fame and down to Windsor Castle when cream tea was served.

It was a long day but a most enjoyable one! ----- -----

SHEFFIELD PARK NOVEMBER 2014

Despite the weather 10 of us had a very enjoyable time at Sheffield Park. The colour was surprisingly good and we did have a few dry interludes plus the tea room was open!

22 members of the gardening group visited Christopher Lloyd’s renowned garden “Great Dixter” at Northiam on 12th August. Although it tried hard to rain it did not spoil our enjoyment of the wide range of colour packed into various features within the garden. Of particular note were the vibrant Rudbeckias and the Eucryphia which was in full flower. The vegetable garden was lesson on successional planting to keep a continuous supply of produce through the summer.

-----

Members from the Gardening Group, together with other local gardening enthusiasts, enjoyed a very warm Summer's Day at the RHS Gardens at Wisley on the 17th July.

----- With maps in hand the group split up to view parts of the gardens which covered their particular interests. ----- The Bowes Lyon Rose Garden was peaceful and colourful, and beyond, and all around, were great splashes of colour from the Crocosmia, Heleniums, Phlox and Verbena, Salvia and Veronica various in the many herbaceous borders. The Pinetum provided shade en route to the numerous heathers and on to the peace of the bird hide on the bank of the river Wey, where earlier the Kingfisher had been spotted.----- -----

We were glad to find the odd Rosebay Willowherb in some borders, -----which made some of us feel 'at home'!Wisley 7

Thanks are due to Ken Turner for all his organisation and to Alan Box for arranging the very efficient transport and block entry into the Gardens, all resulting in a delightful day out.. Wisley 9 -----

Wadhurst U3A Garden Group visit to Anglesey Abbey

The gardening group ventured in Cambridgeshire on what proved to be a mild and mostly sunny day to enjoy the ----- winter colour and strong scents of the shrubs, bulbs and hellebores along their winter walk. Welcomed by the National Trust with tea and coffee we had a most enjoyable day realising just how much colour and interest you can find in the garden on a winters day.

Hopefully these images will give you a feel of the sights that we all enjoyed.
