Its ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Canterbury Cathedral, founded 597 A.D., is the headquarters of the Church of England and Anglican Communion, incorporating Gothic and Romanesque elements in its stone carvings and stained-glass windows. A guided tour lasting about 1 1/2 hours has been organised starting at 11am. The precincts are well worth a visit. The coach will leave Ticehurst at 08.30 and Wadhurst at 08.45. There is no cafe in the Cathedral but there are 18 cafes, tea houses, restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Return is booked for 16.00 so there is time for lunch and sight seeing. The coach cannot drop us off at the Cathedral as there is no on-site parking. There will be a short walk from a nearby drop off point at the bus station.PB.
