Welcome to the Ver-Colne Valley U3A

If you're already a member, feel free to browse but you will need to log -in to access the Newsletter and Members areas.

If you're not yet a member, you are also free to browse. You'll find lots of information about who we are, what we do and how to join us, just click on the Tabs to discover what Ver-Colne Valley U3A (also known as VCV), is about.

Like all U3As, we are a charity, under the umbrella of the Third Age Trust. Our aims are to support individual learning for semi-retired and retired people over the age of 55.

Our Study Groups, are the major focus of our activities at Ver-Colne Valley U3A. These groups are run by members for members and if you click on the Groups Tab, you’ll see the range of interests, hobbies and educational pursuits that they cover. There are nearly 60 groups, some of which are joint groups formed by a few of our members combining with those in neighbouring U3As with similar interests.

We were formed in January 2009 and hold regular meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10am at Greenwood Park Community Centre in Chiswell Green near St. Albans. To find out more, you are welcome to come and visit one of our meetings, just contact our Membership Secretary through the Contacts Tab at the top of this page.

What happens at our meetings? Well there’s always quite a lot of chat, as usually around half of our 400 members set the world to rights over coffee and biscuits. There are also announcements about forthcoming events for members, such as theatre trips, visits to nearby attractions and holidays rather further afield. Our general meetings feature a different guest speaker each month too, covering a great variety of topics of interest. Click on the Meetings Tab at the top to get an idea of what’s in store for the near future.

The Calendar Tab will give you an idea of the kind of trips, events and holidays that our members can enjoy. Again, as you’ll see, there’s a great variety on offer – designed to cater for the many tastes and interests of our members. With all our events, members of VCV have priority.

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit our website. Hopefully, it will give you a flavour of VCV U3A and of the opportunities we provide for our members to get together and to learn together – not for qualifications but just for the fun of it.

We hope you will consider joining us. If so, please click the Contact Tab and send a message to our Membership Secretary. We look forward to meeting you soon.

All best wishes
