2010 Abergavenny Seminar

U3A Science & Technology Network Seminar
Abergavenny, August 2010

Some 50 delegates from all over Britain gathered at Abergavenny for a packed programme of lectures, debate and visits (and socialising!).
Our lecture programme started with jumbo jets and helicopters (what keeps them up) and ended with the Golden Mean, taking in an eclectic mix of topics en route (the message of starlight, the Brunels, computers and DNA …). So we learned to love cholesterol; how to build an energy saving home; the practicalities of replacing animal testing with in vitro methods; and how to do a bit of maths, and found time to visit Swansea and enjoy guided visits to the sites of two ironworks, and an anthracite mine. Not forgetting the good food, the evenings spent socialising with other delegates and members of Abergavenny U3A (free wine!) and the Great Debate (“zero waste is better than high tech disposal”.)
