Local History Group
We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month from September to June. None of us is an expert in history, local or otherwise, we just enjoy finding out about the local area.
We have a mix of talks, or we research a topic we all agree on, and share our findings. Sometimes members arrange a visit. We also improve our research skills, eg by a visit to Hawick Heritage Hub. We’ve collaborated with the local museum on two or three topics and contributed oral history recordings to Scotlands national archive, as well as holding a local study day and the groups work featuring at the Historic Scotland national conference on community engagement in 2017.
Be sure to visit the Local History Group Resources page to listen to some of the oral histories and YouTube videos that have been produced by the group.
