Turriff & District

Creative Writing

The writing group meets once a fortnight in the library at Turriff on a Tuesday morning at 10:15. Sessions usually finish at 12:00 midday.

We currently have ten members and we thoroughly enjoy our time together listening to others reading and then reading our own work. Every fortnight we write to a theme which is decided at the previous session and everyone has a chance to suggest a theme. Sometimes we have a word limit and sometimes not. Everyone also has the opportunity to lead the group if they feel comfortable to do so. We also have some very interesting discussions around the groups writing which is invaluable enabling us to develop ideas and styles of writing.

There is poetry and there is prose but the amazing thing which comes to light every time we meet is the diversity of ideas and slants on a single topic. It`s such good fun.

Topics we have written on so far are Home and Family, Autumn, Fire and Diet. We have created a character and put the character in a setting and have had a story starter where we have all continued our stories using the first common sentence.

Oh and not to forget the wonderful teas and coffees provided for us by the library staff. We are spoiled rotten!!

Fancy coming along then contact me; Kathleen Smith on 01261 851752 or 07840624580 or email me by clicking the link top right.
