Course synopsis:
Birds of prey have been allies of man for many centuries. They have been his companion in the chase, providing him with sport as well as food. References to them are common in our everyday language, in phrases such as “an eye like a hawk”. They are also part of our literary heritage, as in these lines from Shakespeare’s Macbeth:
“A falcon, towering in her pride of place,
Was by a mousing owl hawk’d
The connection to birds of prey led to the keeping of raptors in captivity. This activity, now known as the art of Falconry, reached its peak with ancient falconers in medieval Europe and the Arab world.
This short course is designed for anyone who wishes to learn more about these beautiful and fascinating birds and is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about the care and management of birds of prey and owls.
