This group is open to anyone who plays Basic ACOL. Please note: Bridge will not be taught. Members will need to be Bridge players.
You can play with a regular partner or as a pool member who is allocated a partner at the time of the game by the group leader.
To get the group up and running, we will need an absolute minimum of 4 players up to a maximum of 24 initially.
The group meets at 4pm. on Mondays at the moment but this may extend to Fridays too.
How the group will work:
a. The group will simply enjoy relaxed games of bridge to start with.
b. Bridge will be played online at Bridge Base Online website. Bridge Base Online (BBO) which is a secure website for Bridge players. (A Google search for BBO bridge will take you to the site.)
For new members to the group, the group leader will demonstrate how to use the bridge website to show how easy it is, if necessary.
c. Members wishing to join the group will need to register with that website. It is free to register at present.
d. ThirdAgeBridge group members will need to agree to share their email address and their BBO ID with the Trust U3A ThirdAgeBridge, group leader. General communications to group members will be by email.
e. There is no video content on the BBO website, so bandwidth should not be a problem and players will effectively be anonymous.
f. One member of each table will need to volunteer to set up the table and instructions will be provided.
g. The group could evolve into duplicate bridge if members wish and a suitable platform (website) found (it may be possible to run virtual tournaments on the Bridge Base Online website). Bridge Base Online (BBO) is a secure website for Bridge players. A Google search for BBO bridge will take you to the site.
h. Group meetups could be arranged using Zoom. Notifications of Zoom meetups would be sent by email to the group members.
