We do have a new group Latin for Fun see the groups list below.
This is a group for those interested in learning Latin – those who are completely new to Latin and those who have a little knowledge from schooldays are welcome, as are those who can happily translate ‘et sedit super tapete cattus’ or even the misquote ‘magna est veritas et praevalebit’.
Sessions will be held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 11am.
To run the group, we will need a minimum of 4 and a maximum 8 members.
The group will use a combination of a Latin primer (which members will have to buy, typically costing less than £10) and material that the group leader will provide. Grammar will rear its ugly head, but the group will focus on translation and reading Latin texts. To help keep everything in context there will be discussion about the Ancient World, classical Latin authors and perhaps occasional virtual visits to read inscriptions and get a taste of life in Roman Britain.
Online sessions will be held via Zoom or Skype, possibly using Padlet for collaboration. Exercises will be submitted via email for correction and comment.
Trust u3a members can contact Robert the group leader via the Beacon Members Portal
Please address any other Trust u3a queries to the Groups Co-Ordinator.
