20th Century Life (formerly Music, Fashion and Youth Culture 1950s -1980s)

This group is open to any member of Trust u3a and has members from all over the UK.
The 20th Century Life group meet monthly and discuss all aspects of life, including;
• Music – Bands, musicians, concerts, musical genres, venues
• Theatre – Performances, actors, directors, theatre venues
• Film – Movies, actors, directors, genres
• Fashion – Styles, movements, designers, materials
• Television – Programmes, presenters, music, genres
• Art – Styles, artists, exhibitions
• Dance – Performances, dancers, choreographers
• Life – School, work, households, food, shops, leisure
• Travel – Destinations, experiences, cultures, food
• Culture – Jazz age, war time, teddy boys, beatniks, hippies, punks….
Each session is usually opened with a themed presentation, either by a member of the group or a guest presenter and is followed by an open discussion on the topic of the month.
Members use a variety sources including photos, news items, personal recollections, videos, discussion and PowerPoints, linked to life in the 20th Century . The use of Zoom makes for diverse discussions, not constrained by location; meeting people with a very wide range of interests. We are always learning something new!
The group requires a minimum of 10 members and meets using Zoom with the dates and times published in advance to group members, but generally being the last Friday of each month.
