Notes on 2024 Membership
Following feedback from our members, we have decided to make the subscription to the National U3A magazine (Third Age Matters) optional. This means that if you do not want to include the magazine with your membership then the cost for next year is only £10.00.

  • If you wish to receive the magazine then you need to pay an extra £3.80, making a total of £13.80. This is charged to us by U3A National Office for each member registered to receive a copy.
  • The fee for affiliate members who belong to another U3A but wish to attend Torridge U3A groups will be £2.00. (This is the cost for registration of a member on Beacon system)
  • For those who do not have access to the internet, there is the facility to have the newsletter printed and posted. The additional charge for this is noted on the application form. Originally set in 2018, During the Covid years we were able to absorb some of the additional cost. However, we have now had to raise this charge inline with increased Postal and Printing costs.
  • New members joining in the last three months of period (January to March 2025) do so at reduced rate (see form)

The Torridge U3A group is there to provide interest, companionship and to help you to develop new skills. To see a short video on what the U3A could mean to you please Scroll to the bottom of page and click on the picture below.

Health and Safety

Health & Safety information for Groups can be found under Groups and Policy Docs, however here is an IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR TORRIDGE U3A HEARING AID USERS

If you have a hearing aid with a T (telecoil) or loop setting you will find our new system simple to use, just put on one of our discreet FM receivers and switch your hearing device to the T setting!

The FM loop system will be used at all forthcoming monthly lunches so if you would like to try the system please speak to me, or one of the other committee members present, before the speaker starts. The FM loop system is also available for use at other U3A venues so please speak to your group leader if you feel this would be of help to yourself or any one else who wants to attend any of our groups.

The whole reason for investing in the FM loop system is to help make the Torridge U3A more inclusive and rewarding for all. I know from my professional experience that hearing problems, especially in situations with more background noise, can make people feel excluded and less likely to take part in social activities.

Please spread the word, to both existing U3A members and anyone you know that may have been put off from joining the Torridge U3A, that we now have a system which can help them make their membership a more interesting and enjoyable experience.
