We are a small group of relative or absolute beginners.
We visit mainly local areas of interest, such as Stover Park, Broadsands, Berry Head, but occasionally go further afield (e.g. Exe and Axe estuaries). The only equipment needed is a pair of binoculars.
For example: A select few of the Torbay U3A birdwatching group enjoyed a fine bright morning in May last year on Trendlebeare Common and Yarner Woods with 22 species sightings including spotted flycatcher, pied flycatcher (in the photograph), grey wagtail, marsh tit, coal tit, stonechat, siskin, great spotted woodpecker, garden warbler, wood warbler, and whitethroat. We were brilliantly assisted by Phil Page, former warden of Yarner Woods who was not only able to identify birds by their song but pinpoint them to a tree or bush for us to spot.
Most trips 2-3 hours, start 10:30 am. All events weather dependent.
Please let John know if you can come to any or all of the events.
