Tiptree

Choir - About Us

The Tiptree U3A Singers meet to enjoy a range of songs sung together in a fun but musical way. We work hard to create a welcoming atmosphere where voices of all kinds blend together in a celebration of song.

We are truly inclusive and no one should be put off coming because they think (or have been told in the past by unhelpful music teachers!) that they can't sing! Being tone deaf, which is often another reason given for not joining a choir, is a very rare abnormality of the brain which affects a minute percentage of the population. If you enjoy listening to music then you certainly aren't tone deaf!

I think it's more helpful to see singing as a skill to be learnt and improved on. Would you expect to be brilliant and win a match the first time you picked up a tennis racket? It takes a while to get ears and voice connected, just like the hand/eye co-ordination needed for sports activities. Practise won't always make perfect, but that's not what we're aiming for.

We've made great progress over the past few years as more and more people have joined us and harmonies, key changes and even some solos on occasions are now much more frequent. Singing together is uplifting, releases helpful hormones in our bodies and our group has proved to be supportive and given us all a great group of friends we look forward to meeting.

Come and give us a try!
