Table Tennis 🏓

Our Table Tennis group is going from strength to strength.

People are really stretching their talents handsomely, real competitive spirits among some of our players and some fabulous shots and equally good returns. Great to watch.

The numbers of attendees vary considerably due to varied commitments. In fact, I have personally been on extended holidays, so missed 4 of the last 6 table tennis outings.

In my absence Jill and Shirley have been keeping an eye on the proceedings and the attendance book, thank you Ladies.

Good to see Maria Woodburn back playing again.

We had Ron Young and his son come to play on the 12 April 2024 for the first time, both excellent players.
Ron will be joining us going forward. Seems Ron has been and still is quite an athlete having taken part in many marathons and participating in many sports.
I am sure all would like to join me in welcoming Ron to our wonderful group and wish his wife well.

I understand from my troops that on 5 April, there were only 2 tables available for 11 players and that they had not been placed in the main hall but in the squash court. I was also advised that 3 of you decided to go home.
I have spoken to Jo at Storm Reception and she said there was no booking for our group on that day, hence they accommodated what they could.

I have advised her that we have a continuous 11.30hrs to 13:00hrs weekly slot throughout the year, generally up to mid December and have asked her colleagues to contact me when table tennis cannot be played so I in turn can advise my Group. So hopefully this will not happen again.

I must reiterate this very important point which I have made before.
There are a total of 3 tables and I have 21 people on the Table Tennis register, so on days that more than 12 people turn up, which does not happen very often,  we just have to take turns and make the most of it.
In reality, on a practical note, many a times a number of us take a break and rest as the games can me strenuous.

So we just need to remember, share and share alike, it is sportsmanship 👍

Finally remember to bring and wear your U3A ID badge.

Let the adventure continue 🏓
