Three Brethren (Scottish Borders)

Potteries 2019

The 2019 Three Brethren's Archaeology & Heritage group's extended trip was to The Peak District & The Potteries, including Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry, Lichfield Cathedral, Samuel Johnson's birthplace, the National Memorial Arboretum, the Wedgewood Factory & Museum, The Gladstone Pottery Museum, Buxton & Chatsworth.
Mention the Potteries and you immediately think of Arnold Bennett and the Five Towns, although the Potteries actually consist of six: Tunstall, Burslem (where Bennett spent most of his childhood and youth), Hanley (where he was born), Stoke, Longton and Forgotten Fenton (as it is known today). The six towns amalgamated in 1910 to become the county borough of Stoke-on-Trent and in 1925 it was granted city status.
