North Wales 2018

In April 2018 members of the Archaeology & Heritage group set off for Caernarfon in North Wales, taking a break at Jodrell Bank in Macclesfield en route thus setting the standard for a 4-day Spring break of variety and interest. A visit to Caernarfon Castle, scene of the Prince of Wales' Investiture, started off the first full day, followed by a tour of Anglesey, including the Bryn Celli Ddu prehistoric Burial Chamber, Llanfair PG, and the spectacular Copper Mine in all its brilliant colours on Parys Mountain. The next day saw us two-thirds of the way up Mount Snowdon, but we were prevented from going further because of an unexpected snow blizzard, however this was followed by a balmy afternoon in Portmeirion, the famous Italian-styled village. All too soon it was time to check out of our hotel, but before the drive home we visited the Llechwedd Slate Mine, some of us venturing down, others going up and over in the Monster 4x4 trucks. Finally the Pontcysillte Aqueduct in Llangollen - and home.
