Wine Appreciation 3
This is a new group led by Beryl Beresford with the same objectives as the other Wine Appreciation groups. There is now a waiting list to join this group.
Our Journey so far
At our first meeting at the beginning of July we visited Central Italy and tasted wine from that region starting with a Prosecco or Asti Spumanti Rose to our new group.
We were fortunate enough to hold this (and our second meeting) in the garden on a warm sunny evening. We also had antipasti to follow the wines.
Since then we have visited Spain, New Zealand, France and Chile. In December we are tasting Australian wines.
We meet on the first Friday of each month and take it in turns to host everyone in our own home. We have thirteen members. We usually taste small samples of white, rose and red wine and have a selection of nibbles, cheese, pate and bread or biscuits depending on which country we are visiting. We have a sheet on which to note our thoughts on the aroma, balance, alcohol content, price of each wine and if we liked it. This does test our taste buds.
The results create a lot of laughter and conversation.
Next year we are hoping to have a meal and wine tasting locally in February and visit the New Hall Vineyard nearer the summer. A suggestion of a visit to a French vineyard was also discussed. Watch this space!
