This group meets to share a love of Crime Fiction in all it's forms and genres. The group have decided to discuss a set topic each meeting but some time will also be set aside to chat about what we have recently read or viewed. The group keeps a list of author and book recommendations and holds a book swap each meeting. The members of the group have one strict rule - never give away the ending!
The group will meet on first Wednesday monthly from 10.00-12.00noon. The Group Leader is Anne Marcus but please contact Janice Archery via the link on the Contacts page if you would like to join.
In April the group looked at Victoriana - crime fiction written in or based in the Victorian Period. This was an interesting period for crime, both real and fictional. Detection was in its infancy and a handful of gruesome crimes drew the attention of the public. Several titles chosen by the group reflected this interest as they were based on real crimes. Here are a few of the books/films/tv that the group discussed:
Murdoch Mysteries by Maureen Jennings (book and TV)
The Night in Question by Laurie Graham (book)
Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood (book, film, TV)
Conviction of Cora Burns by Carolyn Kirby (book)
Bertie and the Tin Man by Peter Lovesey (book)
Future meetings will include discussions on cars and ephemera, stories set in Essex and Scandi-Noir'
