October Meeting
October saw the first meeting of this group. Nine of us spent a pleasant morning at Gunners Park, Shoeburyness, enjoying our first walk as a group. We made our way to Barge Pier and Gog’s Berth and then followed the sea wall eastwards to look at the various gun and searchlight emplacements. We then walked past the Iron Age encampment into the former barracks and saw a number of military buildings including the hospital, the Garrison Church, the clock tower and the drill hall. We also examined the Memorial Cairn, erected in memory of the 7 killed in an accidental explosion in 1885.
