HERE ARE THE NOTICES FROM THE GROUPS CO-ORDINATOR
The following new groups are starting shortly:
Bucket List Group, meeting dates variable depending on the adventure being undertaken. Starting in October.
Psychology Group 6, meeting on the 3rd Thursday monthly 10.00-12.00. Starting in November

The Book Swap table is located in the Large Lounge this month.
Next month there will be the annual Arts and Crafts display at the general meeting in the Large Lounge. Please do come along to support this wonderful display of creativity from our members.

May I remind you that in place of the advertised speaker for next month, Barry will be bringing
the highlights of the Cybercrime Prevention Seminar back to Thorpe Bay U3A where it all
started two years ago.
All members who ordered a 2020 diary have been advised that these have now arrived and I
can be found in the large lounge, by the Notice Board after the speaker, for you to pay and
collect your diary. I do have a couple of extras if you did not order one, but have decided that
you would like to buy one. The price is £2.75.
The film group meet on the third Thursday of the month in the Loft of the STBBC. Next
month’s meeting will be on Thursday 21st November at 13:30 when the film will be Strictly
Ballroom which is a 1992 Australian romantic comedy directed by Baz Luhrman.
Jim O’Connor the Group Leader is not here today, but his contact details can be found on the
programme if you wish to contact him with a view to joining the group before their next
After the entertainment you will find tea at the table by the kitchen and coffee in Reception.
Sugar, milk and biscuits will be placed nearby. May I remind members that it is not permitted
to take refreshments into the Sanctuary. Our thanks go to volunteers from Cribbage and
Cycling for helping all the other volunteers to provide refreshments this afternoon and I would
also like to take this opportunity to thank the Meeters & Greeters, the car parking stewards
and the fire stewards, all of whom also make a major contribution to our General Meetings.

Claim a Power of Attorney refund
You can get part of your application fee back if you applied to register a power of attorney
from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2017. This applies to lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and
enduring powers of attorney (EPA). You must claim your refund by 31 January 2021.

The U3A national website publishes details of all events that are due to take place. Members
can either check these regularly or ask to be advised directly by email, as they become known.

MOOCs – Massive Open Online Courses - Studying in a MOOC gives everyone, including
people who have difficulty in getting out, the opportunity to keep their brains active. They now
cover a huge range of subjects on the web which gives members the chance to learn new things

A new guide, Getting Involved in Research, is now available to help U3A members develop
their own research projects. It provides basic guidelines to help everyone get involved. Links
