Thorpe Bay

Afternoon Tea Event

Afternoon Tea – Friday, 29th January, 2016

The day of our first Thorpe Bay U3A Afternoon Tea arrived and all preparations were in place. Richard Brown was doing the catering, his assistants had all the tables laid up and Cheryl Stride and Jan North added their prettily arranged flower vases. Paul Adams, one of our members, Mr Rock “N” Roll himself, had his music ready and a sound check done. The raffle table was looking great and was decorated with flags made by Alison Shannon. We were ready and Henry White arrived to take some photos. Graham Taylor and Bob Stride positioned themselves to welcome everyone. What would I have done without such willing helpers?

Over 80 members attended and I think they all had a good time. The tea was delicious. Moist sandwiches, scones with jam, clotted cream and strawberries, and a wonderful array of cakes, with non-stop tea and coffee. Whilst we were indulging ourselves Paul’s music played in the background. And then came the raffle and with over 30 excellent prizes it took a while. After that Paul took to the microphone and entertained us with songs which took us back to our teenage years. Some just couldn’t resist getting up to do the Twist and we all finished the afternoon kicking up our legs to New York, New York. I would like to say thank you to everyone who came and to all those who helped to make the afternoon such a success.
