Religions of the World
This group meets on 3rd Wednesday monthly from 10-12. The leader is Gloria Dell. New members would be very much welcomed.
The group looks at all world religions and uses a mix of research, speakers and visits. No prior knowledge is needed, just an interest in the topic from any perspective. The January meeting looked at the Jewish festival of Chanukah, which took place at the end of December 2016. It is the festival of lights, which involves lighting of candles each day. Children are traditionally given 'Chanukah Gelt' each day of the eight day festival (translated as Chanukah gold) - nowadays chocolate coins take the place of gold. The food that is commonly eaten is anything fried in oil - especially donuts, making it one of the most popular festivals in the Jewish calendar.
