June’s meet was arranged at short notice, as windy weather reduced the appeal of a planned get together at a group member’s Beach Hut. Following up on March’s trip to Budapest which most of the group enjoyed, this month we tasted six wines from Hungary: two white, two red and two dessert. Complimenting this, we ate Hungarian cheese scones along with a variety of breads, cheeses with apple cake and nutty chocolate brownies. We enjoyed two wines (a Pinot Noir and bottle of Pinot Blanc) from small vineyards in the Etyak region which the group visited in March. Finding Hungarian wine in Southend was not easy, but Majestic Wine had two Harvest Gold offerings - as well as Tokai dessert wine, probably Hungary’s best known wine.
