French for a Challenge
The French Group meets at 2.30pm on the first Friday of the month.
The level of the group is intermediate / advanced and is suited to those who have previously acquired knowledge of French up to at least “O” level standard or above, or who have exposure to the language through visits to France etc. The focus is on listening, reading, understanding and speaking.
At present in our meetings we are concentrating on the book - Le Petit Prince. This is a short and entertaining book often studied by advanced students in schools. We read some of this at home beforehand and at the meeting we listen to the audio, read it out load and check comprehension.
Also each month members have a task for homework. This can involve using internet websites written in French to obtain information to share at the meeting. An example of such a task is “write a short biography of a French person of your choosing.” These can be as long or short as you want to make them. Sometimes the task may be to think up questions to ask the rest of the group.
We do also have fun with quizzes and games.
Details for each meeting are sent out in advance by email so that everyone has time to prepare.
