Music
Now that Coronavirus restrictions have relaxed Thornbury U3A Music Group has resumed their activities and our September 2021 and October 2021 meetings have both been held successfully. We are providing hand-sanitiser and arranging for socially distanced seating but masks may be removed while listening to music and we are serving teas, coffees and biscuits as normal.
Our programme up to the end of the season in June 2022 is as follows:-
2021
Friday 12th November
Helen Roberts will give a talk on Handel.”He was the master of us all. The greatest composer who ever lived” said Beethoven. Helen says “many of his works are instantly recognisable. But so much of his music is less well known. I hope to demonstrate the huge range of his music in my illustrated talk”.
Friday 10th December
Our old friends the Jenner Jazz Quartet will play for our Christmas meeting. Fruit punch and mince pies will be served
2022
Friday 14th January
*** PLEASE NOTE. THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID ***
Friday 11th February
*** LATE PROGRAMME CHANGE ***
Nicky Barnes wil give an illustrated talk called "What the silence taught me" and is a reflection on pieces of music that she learned during lockdown that have now become favourites with her.
Friday 11th March
Thornbury Chamber Players under their conductor Chris Hill present music for strings. Our thanks to them for filling a cancelled space!
Friday 8th April
Miscellany, the ladies singing group, gave us a wonderful concert in December 2019. This time they will be avoiding the usual Christmas favourites and giving us a selection from their large repertoire.
Friday 13th May
Marc Elton (baroque violin/viola) and Despina Homatidou (harpsichord) will entertain us with "Father and Sons", a programme of works by JS Bach, CPE & WF Bach.
Friday 10th June
Local conductor, organist, pianist and music teacher Nigel Davis will be Jos Gregson’s guest as he decides what records he would have with him on a Desert Island and we find out about his very musical life and how he would cope with the solitude of the island.
Annual Lunch – venue to be advised
