Computer Group 2nd&4th Mon @ 2pm online
With great sadness we announced the sudden death of the Group Leader, Eileen Gilder, on Tuesday 20th October 2020. Eileen had been a member of our U3A for over 20 years and during that time served as Committee Chairman and President, plus website editor for 10 years, website advisor, and editor of TUTA News for 10 years. She also chaired the Cotswold Link for 5 years and was involved in setting up several new U3As in the area.
She had led the Computer Group for many years and is much missed by the group members.
We now meet online via Zoom, organized by Carol M as nominal group leader, and John S is leading the technical posse.
Our general ethos of mutual self-help is still very much alive.
We believe that any Computer Group member will by definition surely have the computer kit to be able to join online sessions.
If you are wanting to join, but need to learn about how to join Zoom, tell Carol by email and she will hold special sessions for you, to give you confidence.
You will find a laptop or PC, with mouse, is easier than a tablet, when accessing Zoom sessions.
Carol has expertise only on Microsoft laptop/PC protocols, not on tablets or Apple equipment.
Other group members may be able to give Apple or tablet advice.
We now tend to do second and fourth Mondays online - it's so much easier than travelling to BBHQ - and it gives us time for a bit of extra sociability.
Zoom meetings start at 2pm and if 45 minutes isn't enough we have a 5-minute coffee break and start again, using the same link each time.
The 2pm start is to avoid clashes with our u3a Tewkesbury monthly morning meetings, and our Group Leader meetings.
If you ask Carol M to add you to the email list of members, you can join us via a direct link - you just click on it in Carol's email to you, and you will be in the virtual waiting room.
If you think Carol already has your email address, but you have not been getting invitations, then please contact Carol on LancsCarol@gmail.com to check. Thank you.
NB We are usually restricted to operating in chunks of 45 minutes per session, but last time during lockdown, the kind Zoom admin allowed almost limitless time.
Beginners to Computing are very much welcome - we have a varied range of experience and knowledge, and no question is too trivial - our beginners can often help the fairly expert, when they tackle something which is new to them.
Please send your email address to LancsCarol@gmail.com and Carol will send you the invitation to join in.
Old meeting information....maybe one day in the future? .
.. although this is looking more and more unlikely in late October 2021 ...
We met on the 4th Monday of each month (except Bank Holidays) at Boys Brigade HQ, Ashchurch Road, in the small room, via the side entrance.
We do not offer formal teaching. We have a laptop and projector; various cables to project from smart phones and tablets, both Apple and Android; and Internet connectivity.
We are a group who gather to solve problems and learn new things, be it a useful shortcut that someone uses or new software or hardware that is available. Along the way everyone learns the language of computers and its technical terms, as well as sharing lots of 'how to' advice.
We welcome new members, from beginners to experienced.
