French 2 - Intermediate
Please note that, from 5th January 2017, this group will meet at Marina Court every Thursday from 13:30 – 15:00 led by our Tutor, Ann Butler
We are a small group which meets every week between September and June (except for a couple of weeks over Christmas). Last year we started on a new textbook, French Conversation, which has provided us with up-to-date phrases for use in our conversations over in France. Each week we study a dialogue and do a couple of written exercises for homework. In the class, Ann also plays us recordings of French people on various subjects: last term we heard a piece about Gustave Eiffel, the famous engineer. We have a list of questions to answer from our comprehension of what we have heard. Each week, we read and translate pages from our French magazine, Rendez-vous, for news of France, its customs and its regions. Everyone groans when we read the “jokes” in the magazine and we dread Ann asking us to fill in the crossword in class or to describe the differences, in French, between two pictures. It is a great way of revising and learning though!
We meet on Thursday, finishing well before dark in the winter. We always learn something new and we always enjoy the class, there is never a dull moment. If you would like to try one session with a view to joining us, please do; just let me know beforehand.
